Gujarat Sangeet Mahavidhyalaya was established by Gwalior Gharanas famous singer and well-known violinist Shree Pt. Bindu Madhav Tendular on 02-04-1954. It is engaged with Akhil Bhartiya Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya (Mumbai) and it provides education on the courses of Gandharva Mahavidhyalaya as well as provides administration for getting government approved degree exams.
Vidhyalaya’s inauguration was done by one of the senior and well-known poet Shree Jinabhai Desai (Sneharashmi).
Vidhyalaya provides teaching on various classical music subjects like vocal, instruments and tabla. Approximately eight to nine thousand students have been educated by the vidhyalaya. Students educated in the vidhyalaya have also started their independent profession in classical music along with other different professions. Independent professions includes Vocal, Instrument Player, Tabla Artist, Music Teacher, Recording Studio, Music Artist, Sound Manager and Music School etc.
It’s the honour of the vidhyalaya that many foreigner students have also been got educated which includes students from countries like London, U.S.A, Canada, Japan and Koria. It is also a pleasure that even today, many students taught online through internet by the vidhyalaya.
Since 1980, the Vidhyalaya is being efficiently manged by Shree Rajan Shukla. The intension of Gujarat Sangeet Mahavidhyalaya is to spread and share knowledge of classical music to all the areas in the society and provide contribution to the tradition of Indian classical music.
